At the 2026 ClimateCAP MBA Summit, Prime’s Chief Program Officer, Anna Goldstein, joined leaders across finance and policy for a panel on “Financing the Energy Transition.” The discussion centered on a persistent challenge in energy finance, which applies to climate finance more broadly: multi-faceted systems change is required to address overlapping economic and environmental crises. The next generation of leaders needs to be prepared to provide the right kind of financial tools to complementary solutions, from large-scale infrastructure to R&D on novel technology.
Anna highlighted the role of catalytic capital in closing the gap between capital needed and capital available from conventional investors. At Prime, this means deploying philanthropic capital toward untapped climate solutions that are not yet able to attract conventional investment, helping to “seed” and “scale” solutions and crowd in additional funding. Because this work relies on charitable dollars, it requires a high bar: the potential for game-changing impact, a clear “bridge to somewhere,” and investor additionality, where investment fills a gap left by traditional capital.

She also emphasized the importance of coordinating philanthropic and commercial capital to ensure the right capital is deployed at the right time. Looking ahead, Anna underscored the need for systems-thinking approaches that account for geographic context and the full range of outcomes that matter, including emissions reduction and removal as well as adaptation and resilience.
